Humattering is a choreographic performance and research project exploring the entanglements between human and more-than-human worlds — asking how bodies, objects, ecologies, and language press against and transform one another. The work moves between live performance, writing, and choreographic installation, drawing on new materialist philosophy and practice-led research to find forms that think through the body rather than about it.

Humattering has been performed in two iterations: as h u m a t t e r i n g at the Conference on Movement and Computing, Chicago (2022), and as Fragments of h u m a t t e r i n g at the Australasian Drama Studies Conference, University of Auckland (2022). The spacing of the title is itself a gesture — slowing the word down, making room for what lives inside it.

The project sits at the intersection of choreographic research, critical theory, and performance writing, and continues Longley’s sustained inquiry into how artistic practice can generate knowledge that conventional academic language cannot easily hold.
